The Ways to Prevent Hay Fever

Allergy can be caught everywhere. Almost anyone can be allergic to almost anything. A common allergy is caused when a foreign material enters the body, and the body misinterprets this as harmful substance. The body tends to overreact, producing chemicals and antibodies in its efforts to flush the foreign substances from the body.

In hay fever, when you take in harmless pollen, (trust me it wasn’t the pollens choice to land on your nose), the nasal passages become irritated and inflamed. The body triggers the release of antibodies and chemicals. The antibodies and chemicals are responsible why you have a runny nose, swelling eyes, frequent sneezing, and other symptoms linked to hay fever.

As they say, prevention is better than cure. If you want to prevent hay fever, stay away from hay. Stay from trees and plants that you know you may be allergic to. Studies show that even a person not allergic to certain allergens intends to be allergic in the long run when overexposed to allergens. Do not seat under a birch tree is a good example. Birch tree is one of the leading causes of hay fever.

Pollen grains released by this tree when inhaled can lead to hay fever. Reduce pollen exposure as much as you can. The most practical and easiest way to do this is to avoid the outdoors. When going out, since sometimes you can never really stay at home all day, you might want to wear sunglasses. This prevents the pollen from plants enter you eyes.

Although, when at home, you may also observe closing windows and doors, especially on days when you know that the pollen count in the air is high. Also, try avoiding mowing the lawn or doing some outdoor work. Doing chores near the grass can cause hay fever. If the weather is windy, this is your queue to stay in. The wind can carry with it thousands of allergens and one of them may be on their way to your eyes or your nose.

Pollen also tends to cling on your hair and on your clothes. Do not hang wet clothes on grassy areas, or near a tree. The fabric can serve as a warming place for pollens before they enter your body and you start sneezing. Try to wash you hair, too, especially after walking out on a windy day.

Eating the right food and having a balanced diet is also a good way to prevent hay fever. Certain vitamins in food such as beta-carotene and omega 3 acids can reduce the effects of histamine in the body. Histamine is one of the chemicals released once your body realizes that are pollen is already inside its premises.

Also, these substances found in food can prevent the all over tendency of the body to be allergic. In a way it prepares the body on how to react properly next time a harmless foreign substance enters. Doing regular work out habits and exercise to boost health can also be good. But avoid running on the grass or near trees.
