Natural Hay Fever Treatments
One spring day, you decide to take a short relaxing walk in the park. You do this to free yourself from work stress, stress at home, and all the hustle and bustle of the city. You take in long, deep breathes. Then one week alter you start sneezing. You feel irritating pressure from your nose and all over your face. Your eyes start swelling; not only your eyes but your nose as well. You get diagnosed and turns out, your body’s immune system is overreacting to a normal harmless little substance that you must have inhaled while breathing the crisp spring air. You have the symptoms and yes, turns out you have hay fever.
Hay fever, or more commonly known as allergic rhinitis, is caused by the irritation of the nasal passages by allergens (specifically grass or plant pollen). This irritation leads to inflammation, triggering a series of reactions in your body resulting to symptoms that are commonly associated with hay fever. If you are not a firm believer of therapy and clinical medicine, here are a few natural treatments for hay fever that you may want to try. You can try herbs such as butterbur, Quercetin, Carotenoids, and Omega 3 fatty acids or fish oil.
Butterbur, a herb more commonly found in northern Asia and some parts in North America, can be used to treat hay fever, asthma, coughs, and other allergies. This natural allergy treatment works by blocking the action of histamine (the natural chemical secreted by the body as a reaction to the pollen allergy) and other antibodies that cause the symptoms of hay fever.
Quercetin, on the other hand, a natural antioxidant from water-soluble plant materials, also works by stopping and minimizing the effects of histamine in the body. Quercetin can be found in certain foods including as apples, red onions, black tea, and red onions. The intake of Carotenoids, or popularly known as beta-carotene prevents the body from being prone to allergies. It works by making the body prepared to make the right reactions when faced by certain allergens. Excellent sources of carotenoids are certain vegetables such as pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots of course (that’s why its call carotenoids), squash, and other greens.
Diet and food intake is very important. People suffering from hay fever may not only react to allergens and substances they in with the air, they may also have strong reactions to the things they eat. Getting proper nutrition and watching what you eat is also an excellent way to battle hay fever.
Another natural remedy is adding Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Scientific studies show that an adequate supply of Omega-3 fatty acids in a person’s daily diet lessens the body’s release of inflammatory chemicals that cause the terrible symptoms of hay fever.
One other remedy for hay fever is acupuncture. A medical treatment that originated from China, acupuncture has been proven to make the body less prone to allergies. There have been experiments where 80 children with hay fever were treated with acupuncture. After a certain period of time, the symptoms went away.
