Hay Fever Remedies
Hay fever is known today as one of the most common allergies. Almost everyone can have hay fever, at any time of the year. In fact, studies show that an estimate number of 40 million people in the US suffer from the symptoms that are closely associated to hay fever. Also known as allergic rhinitis, hay fever is caused when small, hardly visible pollen enters the body through the air we breathe and causes inflammation and irritation to the nasal passage. This irritation causes the body to react by releasing antibodies and chemicals to fight the pollen and flush it out of your system.
While the antibodies are working to get rid of the allergens from the body, you in turn experience sneezing, watery eyes, fatigue, coughing, itchiness of the nose and throat, and even postnasal drip. You can also feel an irritation pressure on the nose and sometimes all over your face. The symptoms are not really fun, and you may want to get rid of them the very first second you feel a symptom.
There are many remedies one can choose from to help get rid of the symptoms brought about by hay fever. You can try systematic therapy, which not only treats hay fever; it also helps in the over-all resistance of the body against allergens. You can choose antihistamines, Glucocorticoids, and Leukotriene.
Antihistamine is a type of medicine you can take that can give relief to early symptoms. Although they are not really considered as prescription drugs and are mostly available over the counter, you can still consult your doctor and ask which antihistamine is best suited for you, either promethazine or chlorphenamine. Glucocorticoid therapy, on the other hand, enters the body thru intramuscular injection. Triamcinolone and Corticosteroid, the two types known to be very effective, must enter the body in limited amounts, with your doctor’s assistance, of course.
If therapy is not for you, you can also use nasal sprays to help the body flush out the allergens. Nasal sprays also relief your nasal passage from irritation. Histamine, the natural chemical released by the body during hay fever, can be controlled by the take of Cromoglicate. This medicine can help control the effects of histamine and can give relief to symptoms of hay fever.
Remedies for hay fever also involve cleaning your surroundings, your room and your house. Get rid of dust, and remove possible allergens by keeping your room clean. Avoid parks and other locations where there are many allergen causing trees. If you know some plants and grasses that you are allergic to, keep away from them as much as you. Overexposing to these environments can trigger further allergies. Always consult your doctor upon experiencing early signs of hay fever to get it treated as soon as possible. Also, you may want to try eating honey. Recent clinic studies show that the intake of small amounts of pollen to the body can make the body adjust to pollen and therefore lessen the tendencies of you having hay fever.
