Combat Common Skin Flaws

You don’t have to have severe skin problems to be annoyed by common blemishes and troubles that make our facial skin less than perfect. I know that when I look in the mirror, I feel frustrated by blackheads, flaking, and excess hair. Well, few people have flawless skin, but there are measures that can be taken to banish some of these unsightly spots. Do you know what they are? Let me educate you.

Blackheads have been the most stubborn flaw I’ve faced in my skincare routine. They form much the same as other types of acne–by oil, dirt, dead cells, and other toxins filling the pore. The dark appearance that gives blackheads their name is typically from dust and dirt which caps off the pore.

Make sure that you are using a medicated facial cleanser. Salicylic acid is best, as it is less likely to aggravate the face’s sensitive skin than benzyl peroxide and it will slough off dead skin cells and blast through germs. If you have moderate to severe acne in addition to your persistent blackheads, talk to a dermatologist.

The manner in which you wash your face is more important than you might think! Do the initial rinse with hot water (make sure not to burn yourself) in order to open up the pores. This will make your cleanser more efficacious, allowing it to clean out more trapped dirt and oil than it would otherwise. You may want to apply the cleansing agent to a nubby washcloth to increase exfoliating power.

Then, perform the final rinse with cold water, as this will close the pores, making it more difficult for toxins to enter and clog them. You may want to use a gentle toner before applying moisturizer.

Flaking can have a variety of sources, but it frequently comes from individuals using their fingernails to squeeze pimples or blackheads. The edge of the fingernail damages surrounding tissue, killing off skin, which causes it to begin flaking. The simple solution? Don’t squeeze with your fingernails!

In some cases, however, it is a sign of eczema, a skin condition that can be treated with the help of a dermatologist. Make an appointment with yours if you’re truly unsure about the source of your flaking.

Excess hair can be an issue for women both young and old. Waxing and tweezing are temporary solutions, and some women find these actions so painful and/or unpleasant that they refuse to pursue them. Laser hair removal is definitely worth investigating to make sure those pesky hairs don’t persist.

Because the areas of the face are so small, the procedure would be affordable and simple, but because that hair is often so light, it may be more difficult to remove, so set up a consultation with a laser hair removal specialist to discuss the possibilities.

The skin of your face deserves special care, so monitor your skincare regimen carefully. Most of us will be up against flaws a lot of the time, but you don’t have to just tolerate it. Take action!
